Julia Talagaeva reviewed landmark labor dispute cases at the Russian-German Chamber of Commerce HR conference
A conference on HR issues was held last Thursday at the Russian-German Chamber of Commerce in St. Petersburg. The most pressing HR topics were addressed at this event including the latest developments in labor and migration law, personal data processing, the main trends on the labor market as well as staff recruitment and motivation.
Julia Talagaeva, senior associate at Forte Tax & Law, reviewed at this event the labor dispute cases that were significant in 2019 and at the beginning of 2020, with the main emphasis placed on the Supreme Court ruling on wage indexation. This ruling has changed how indexation should be understood. If previously it was believed that indexation was not the only way to increase real wages, now employers are not entitled to back out of providing for an indexation procedure. A heated debate arose among the guests who discussed, for example, whether it is necessary to index the already high salaries received by senior managers, and whether it is possible to document indexation by entering into additional agreements to employment contracts.
