Expert Severo-Zapad interview with Anton Kabakov about investment climate, tax incentives for investors and prospects
The business paper Expert Severo-Zapad published this week an interview with Anton Kabakov, partner at Forte Tax & Law, about the investment climate in Russia.
Anton noted that it is currently difficult to estimate the net foreign capital outflow because official statistics have yet to separate foreign and “offshore” capital. It, nevertheless, remains that the amount of real foreign investments actually decreased recently, and according to Anton, this drop is not due to political reasons.
“Investments are declining mainly due to economic reasons. In my experience, only a few companies have ceased to operate in Russia due to political reasons. Citing political reasons is an official tale that companies pass on to foreign markets in Europe and the States,” Anton noted.
During the interview, Anton also talked about regional tax incentives for investors, in particular, the investment tax deduction which was approved by the government of St. Petersburg not so long ago. As you may recall, the introduction of this tax deduction was initially proposed on behalf of the business community by Forte Tax & Law. This initiative was first put forward at the Leaders Club and the Board for Improvement of Business in St. Petersburg.
