Entry into force of MLI in Russia discussed at traditional #SPIBATaxTalks meeting
#SPIBATaxTalks meetings organized jointly by SPIBA Finance Committee and Forte Tax & Law draw more and more crowd ever time. This time, the meeting was held in an appealing format known as “taxes and wine” and drew together about 50 attendees. This great attendance was not so surprising considering that the topic addressed at the event – Double Taxation Treaty Revolution: MLI in Russia – is relevant to all companies conducting international transactions and doing business abroad.
The event was held as an interactive “talk show” co-hosted by colleagues from Emerging Markets Group and Mazars alongside Anton Kabakov.
The audience participated in the discussion actively and managed in just an hour and a half to discuss many aspects of MLI, from the bases for its application and minimal standard to optional provisions.
In the end, the guests conducted a Principal Purpose Test. All attendees had a practical task which was all the more complex that no specific OECD recommendations are available for any of them. The attendees earlier divided into “tax specialists” and “taxpayers” expressed their pros and cons for their particular case of Principal Purpose Test. The teams with the most convincing arguments well-deserved prizes.
As previously, this free interactive format was so well received and got such excellent feedback from the event attendees that we will continue holding meetings this way.
