Anton Kabakov spoke about tax trends at the Leaders Club

The beginning of spring was marked by the traditional Friday business breakfast of the Leaders Club which took place on March 01, 2019. Anton Kabakov, Partner at Forte Tax & Law, spoke at this event, providing the club members with key tax takeaways for 2018 and current trends in tax practice.

Anton began his presentation with statistics and mentioned a tricky trend whereby the federal budget tax revenues increased by 30% in 2018 compared with 2017 while GDP growth in Russia slowed down to 0.7% in January 2019 on a year-over-year basis.

Anton also gave to the club members an account of how the law on unjustified tax benefit, which came into force in August 2017, is implemented in practice. This law provides for the inclusion in the Tax Code of a list of grounds under which tax authorities are entitled to decline reduction in tax payments.

Another trend that Anton mentioned is the disputes over the “immobilization” of movable property resulting from a seemingly positive decision to abolish the imposition of corporate property tax on movable property.
