Reminder of terms for changing work permits

In view of practical issues that foreign nationals have been facing recently, we would like to remind you that amendments to Federal Law N 115-FZ dated 25.07.2002 entered into force on June 30, 2015.

These new amendments require foreign employees to apply to the migration service to rectify their work permit in case of change of the following details [1]:

• Surname, name or patronymic;
• Passport details.

This must be done within 7 working days of:

• Entry to Russia when the new passport was obtained abroad;
• The date of receipt of the new passport when it is obtained in Russia.

If a foreign national fails to apply or apply to the migration service late to replace his/her work permit with a new one reflecting the relevant changes of details, a fine from RUB 4,000 to RUB 5,000 could be imposed on the foreign national[2]. It is also important to note that if a foreign national is brought to administrative liability, this may be used as grounds for declining issuance of work permits and work visas in the future.
